SHOW REPORTS
2007 ANNUAL and FUTURITY SHOW
from Earl Sheaffer, Jr.
The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. Annual and Futurity Show was held November 3, 2007. It was held in the comfortable and spacious hall of the Youth For Christ Center in Lebanon, PA.
There were 13 lofts represented with 190 birds shown. Several exhibitors from outside of Pennsylvania again made the trip in to show their birds with us. As always there was talk about this past breeding season, the winners of the shows gone by and who may be showing and winning at the shows to come. There was the opportunity to look over, handle and give good positive reflections on each other’s birds. The two big questions asked where, “Would Frank Gobla win the futurity show the third year in a row and would Stan Relinski win his fifth championship in the annual show?”
For those of you that have not attended our show we do something out of the ordinary as far as entries go. We use what we call, “An Open Entry” show format. No class entry book is kept. The exhibitor mails in his/her entry with the total number of birds they are showing along with the entry fee for that number of birds. The day of the show the exhibitor is responsible for knowing what their entries are when classes are called as birds are not checked in. The judge picks the top three birds in each class and only those three birds with their band numbers are recorded. This system works very well. It cuts down on paper work and time.
We had the honor of having Ray Troyer from Goshen, Indiana, judge the annual show. Stan Relinski won Best Old Hen with a silver, Stan Relinski won Best Old Cock with a silver, Stan Relinski won Best Young Hen with a silver, and Paul Anderson won Best Young Cock with a blue bar. Stan’s silver young hen went on to win Best in Show and Paul’s blue bar young cock went on to win Reserve Champion.
Our judges again this year for the futurity portion of the show were, Dick and John Lipski, a father and son team from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. John judged the young hens and Dick judged the young cocks. After John picked the best hen and Dick picked the best cock they came together and picked the champion futurity bird. This year Paul Anderson won champion with a blue bar hen that had great color and structure. Frank Gobla won reserve champion with a fine red check cock. Rod and Jean Hand took 2nd reserve with a nice red check cock. There was a nice purse of money won by the top three birds. This money was generated from the registration fee for the futurity bands. The exhibitors with futurity birds were given the option of showing their birds in the annual show upon paying the regular entry fee.
As always there was a great selection of prizes obtained for the raffle. The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Show has one of the biggest and best raffles to be found anywhere. There was pigeon feed, medication, and loft supplies, small appliances, whatnots, and a lot more. There was the annual auction of some really outstanding non-flowns from top lofts in the US.
The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. wants to thank those wonderful ladies, Jean Hand, Ida Grier, Fran Bampfield, and Donna Sheaffer who worked so hard in the kitchen and prepared and provided a tasty assortment of food and drink for everyone to enjoy. Rod Hand as always did another smashing job at putting this show together and managing it so everyone could enjoy it. Yours truly was the show coordinator and I did my best to keep things moving and running as smoothly as possible. A special thanks to those who helped set up the show and to those that stayed and helped tear down and clean up. The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn thanks everybody for coming, supporting, and enjoying our show and our great hobby. Without everybody’s support, those that volunteered their time and the exhibitors with their fine showing of birds, this show could not take place and continue to be the success that it is.
The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. 2008 show will be held, Saturday, November 1, 2008. It will be held in the Youth For Christ Center in Lebanon, PA. will be the judge for the annual show. Dick and John Lipski have again graciously agreed to judge the futurity portion of the show.
We invite you to become a member of our fine group. Our focus and goal is to promote the non-flown show racing homer, to support, encourage and advocate for all breeders/exhibitors of non-flowns, and to better our hobby as a whole. We honor a “Bird of the Year” and a “Showman of the Year.” Show reports and a newsletter are sent to all members. Please, come join us, dues are $10.00 a year. Send your $10.00 dues to: Rod Hand, 103 West 35th Street, Reiffton, PA 19606. Make your check payable to Rod Hand. 2009 ANNUAL and FUTURITY SHOW
from Earl Sheaffer, Jr.
The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. Annual and Futurity Show was held November 7, 2009. It was held in the comfortable and spacious hall of the Youth for Christ Center in Lebanon, PA.
Seventeen lofts exhibited 218 of their best. This provided what was needed for the start of an exciting day. Even with the elevated gasoline prices we still had exhibitors from outside of Pennsylvania make the trip to show their finest. Stan Relinski from IN, Harold Jones and John DiGaspari from NY, and Skip Johnson, Earl Kirkhoff, and Walter Kuklane from MD. We also had Mike Brown from FL, Gary Wiltrout from Texas, and Leonard Rusche from CA send birds for the show.
The Northeastern Show Racing Pigeon Assn. uses what we call, “An Open Entry” show format. No class entry book is kept. The exhibitor mails in their entry with the total number of birds they are showing along with the entry fee for that number of birds. The day of the show the exhibitor is responsible for knowing what their entries are when classes are called as birds are not checked in. The judge picks the top three birds in each class. Only then are the three top birds in that class registered according to class, color, placement, band number and exhibitor.
We were honored to have a father and son team, Dick and John Lipski, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin do our judging. The judging for the day went like this: the Futurity: Dick judged the young hens and John the young cocks; the Annual show: Dick judged the young cocks and the old cocks and John did the young hens and the old hens. They united to pick the top three winners in each sector.
The Futurity this year had 59 bands registered from 13 lofts. Paul Anderson had the Champion bird, a silver cock. Walter Kuklane won Reserve Champion with a silver hen. John DiGaspari won 2nd Reserve Champion with a black check cock. Champion bird and exhibitor took home $177.00, Reserve Champion bird and exhibitor took home $88.50, and Second Reserve Champion and exhibitor took home $26.50. The prize money for the Futurity is generated from the registration fee for the futurity bands. The exhibitors and their Futurity birds are also given the option of showing in the annual show upon paying the regular entry fee.
As always there was a great selection of prizes to choose from come raffle time. The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. has one of the biggest and best raffles to be found anywhere. There was pigeon feed, pigeon medication, natural herbal supplements, loft supplies, gift certificates, small appliances, whatnots, and more.
There was an auction of some good quality show racing homers. These were of different color from lofts in different geographical areas of the US.

2008 SHOW REPORT
from Earl Sheaffer, Jr.
The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. Annual and Futurity Show was held November 1, 2008. It was held in the comfortable and spacious hall of the Youth For Christ Center in Lebanon, PA. Along with the Futurity sector of our Annual Show we held something new this year it was a "Member's Only Open" sector of the show. This was for Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. members only. It had a two bird limit, was for old birds only, and had a cash award for the top three birds.
Fifteen lofts exhibited 195 of their best. This provided all that was needed for the start of an exciting day. Even with the elevated gasoline prices we had exhibitors from outside of Pennsylvania make the trip to show their finest. Leonard Rusche from CA, Robert Johnson, OR, Stan Relinski from IN, Harold Jones and John DiGaspari from NY, and Skip Johnson, Earl Kirkland, and Walter Kuklane from MD. We also had Mike Brown from FL send birds up for the show.
The Northeastern Show Racing Pigeon Assn. uses what we call, "An Open Entry" show format.
We again had the honor of Dick and John Lipski, a father and son team from Milwaukee, Wisconsin do our judging. The judging went like this: the Futurity: Dick judged the young hens and John the young cocks; the Member's Only Open sector: Dick judged the old hens and John the old cocks; the main event, the Annual show: Dick judged the young cocks and the old cocks and John did the young hens and the old hens. They united to pick the top 3 winners in each sector.
The Futurity this year had 52 bands registered from 11 lofts. Leonard Rusche had the Champion bird, a silver hen. He walked away with the purse of $156.00. Frank Gobla won Reserve Champion with a red check whiteflight hen and he walked away with the purse of $78.00. It is amazing how Frank with his small loft who only raises 12 or so young each year has since the beginning of the Futurity either had the champion or reserve champion.. That has something to say about quality over quantity. Skip Johnson made his first win in the Futurity with a blue bar hen. He walked away with the purse of $26.00 for 2nd Reserve Champion. The prize money for the Futurity is generated from the registration fee for the futurity bands. The exhibitors and their Futurity birds are given the option of showing in the annual show upon paying the regular entry fee.
The new Member's Only Open sector of the show for old birds had 16 birds shown by 8 members. Paul Anderson won Champion with a blue bar cock and won $20.00. Leonard Rusche had Reserve Champion with a blue bar hen and he won $10.00. Rod and Jean Hand had the 2nd Reserve Champion with a red check cock and they won $5.00.
As always there was a great selection of prizes to chose from come raffle time. The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn. has one of the biggest and best raffles to be found anywhere. There was pigeon feed, pigeon medication, natural herbal supplements, loft supplies, gift certificates, small appliances, whatnots, and more.
There was an auction of some good quality non-flown show racing homers. These were of different color from lofts in different geographical areas of the US.

Rod Hand as always did another smashing job at putting this show together and managing it so everyone could enjoy it. A special thanks to Leonard Rusche who after his flight in from CA helped set up Friday evening and then helped tear down on Saturday. Thanks to the others, just to name a few, Rod Hand's grandson, Stan Relinski, John Lipski, Walter Kuklane and Paul Anderson who helped set up and/or tear down in one capacity or the other. Sorry if I forgot anyone it was not intentional. We wish to thanks to Scott Boyer for lending us his truck to transport the cages and also for helping set up and tear down. The Northeastern States Show Racing Pigeon Assn thanks everybody for coming, supporting, and participating in our show in one way or the other. Without your support, those that volunteered their time and those that exhibited a fine showing of birds, this show could not take place and continue to be the success that it is. Thanks again !!

• A big THANK YOU to Dick and John Lipski for judging the 2008 Northeastern States Show.
• For the 2009 show we are going to attempt to have someone in the placecountry-regionLebanon area pick up and return the cages we rent from the Lebanon Pigeon Club. We are also hoping they can assist with setting up and tearing down as well. This will eliminate a very large time consuming and energy that only a very few put forth in doing.
The Northeastern States 2008 Showman of the Year was won by Paul Anderson. Although Paul did not win either of the two major eastern shows he did win the New York Fall Combine.
